Bird & Bat research

Birdwatching and bat research is a real passion of mine. Although I enjoy observing, photographing and filming all living creatures in nature, birds and bats are my speciality. Unfortunately many bird and bat species are threatened nowadays and it is our common responsibility to protect them and their habitats. Finding rare birds and bats is really cool, but much of my time I also count breeding and non-breeding birds and bats for local or national census projects. As the president of a local bird and mammals working group and local coördinator of several projects, I know that bird and bat census information is very valuable for the protection and conservation of these beautiful creatures and their habitats.

Currently I use these optical instruments for observing birds:

Kowa TSN-883 Prominar ED 88mm Spotting Scope

Swarovski EL 10x42 Binoculars

For bat research, I use several batdetectors (hand detectors and standalone (passive) detectors):

Anabat Walkabout

Anabat Swift

Pettersson U-384

Wildlife Acoustics EMT2-Pro

Wildlife Acoustics Mini-BAT, SM3-BAT & SM4-BAT FS

I also use thermal binoculars like the Pulsar Accolade 2 LRF XP50 PRO, and for mammal research, several wildlife trail cameras from Browning, Bushnell, Campark, Maginon.
